A bit about how and where TLP started?
me and my friend Bob just wanted to make a creative crew of different people with artistic talents. the LADS characters were in their infancy then, we were concentrating more on photography.the first TLP shows in london and Amsterdam were photography shows. its only when we moved to holland in 98 i started to draw lads on the street. it soon became a full time hobby. 8 years later its my life! bob stopped 3 years ago.
tell more about ‘the lads’.
probably they’re an intelligent race of aliens who are using me as an artistic vessel to get people used to what they look like before they come and save the earth.
you’ve been drawing and exploring the lads since 1998. do you ever feel bored with that character?
No way jose, they’re my friends. they pay my mortgage. they get me flown around the world. they put food on the table. they’ll never leave me and they never tell me what to do. Would you get bored with that sort of friendship? i owe them a living.
which do you prefer, paste-ups, or painting them straight onto the wall? why?
i prefer painting them straight. its more real than a poster. i think a poster is a bit too easy. exTLP member Garrett was a poster king. he could climb like a ninja and had an eye and desire to hit big spots in city centres. He left the crew nearly two years ago and with him went TLP paste ups. now i work alone and prefer to use markers ,spray and stickers.
ever planned to stop drawing the lads and start another characters?
no, i wouldnt give up on them. even if there was no fame or success. i draw them anyway plus I just started drawing new characters, although theyre all still part of the TLP LADS project.
What’s your average day like?
absolutely amazing. i live a charmed life of good friends and many beers.
what makes you different from other artists?
i draw LADS
what’s your favourite medium?
do you consider yourself an artist?
i consider everyone an artist, me included.
is there anyone who should stop putting stuff up on the streets?
what’s better, on the street or off the street? why?
on the street. its free art belonging to no-one;there for everyone. not asking you to buy shit, just a sign of life to enjoy or hate or be inspired or to make you think…or not. i love inside too but its not the same.
Ever been caught in the act?
If there had to be a soundtrack to your art, what/who would it be?
the TOP GUN soundtrack
Hypotetical speaking, if you would bomb a city who would you like to be your partner in crime? It can be a non artist, living or dead.
ANGELINA JOLIE, she can hold my bag of pens.
How do you keep reinventing your creativity?
i take a lot of time to myself to think long and hard about absolutely everything…..and probably the shitload of alcohol and marajuana i consume on a daily basis.
been to indonesia?
i’ve been to a lot of indonesian restaurants in amsterdam. love the gado gado! i would love to come but i need a paid invite at this
what do you think of street artscene here?
i dont know it actually. wheres there a good website i can see stufff?
Well check out our website, www.tembokbomber.com ahahah! Thanks, lads!
